1. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

HIGHER HEALTH is a registered non-profit organisation (NPC/NPO) committed to advancing health, wellness and development outcomes within the higher education and TVET sector across South Africa.

The current external audit engagement, held by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), concludes with the FY2026 audit and annual financial statements process. HIGHER HEALTH is therefore initiating a competitive procurement process to appoint a new independent external audit firm for a five-year appointment, subject to annual performance review, continued independence and approval by the relevant governance structures.

The appointed audit firm will be responsible for expressing an independent professional opinion on HIGHER HEALTH's annual financial statements, as set out in Section 3.

This procurement process is overseen by the Audit, Risk and Finance Investment Committee (ARFIC), which has reviewed and noted the scope and deliverables set out in this RFP to ensure that they adequately reflect the Committee's governance, audit quality, financial reporting and donor compliance expectations.
